OVERTONE FILMS is a production company based in Manhattan. Founded by Emmy-winning director and writer Hilan Warshaw, the company has produced nine internationally commissioned and broadcast feature documentaries and docudramas. Overtone Films is currently in development on a narrative feature film.
Hilan and Overtone’s documentaries, made in co-production with European television networks and U.S. partners, include WAGNER’S JEWS (WDR/ARTE, PBS-WNET, and Israel’s Channel 8 among others); THROUGH THE DARKNESS (ORF, SVT, YLE, Medici TV); SECRET SONG with Renée Fleming (SVT, Medici TV, Czech TV, PBS-All Arts); IN THE KEY OF BACH (Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, PBS-Georgia Public Broadcasting); RACHMANINOFF REVISITED (WDR/ARTE, Peter Rosen Productions Inc.; co-producer and editor); MY BOLERO (Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, PBS-GPB, Medici TV; 2024 Southeast Emmy Award for Hilan Warshaw, Best Long-Form Arts/Cultural Programming); MAHLER IN NEW YORK (SVT, Czech TV; Panorama Films); THE FACES OF CARMEN (Westdeutscher Rundfunk / ARD; C-Major Entertainment); and HONORABLE MR. MORGENTHAU (upcoming limited theatrical run and PBS-WNET; 2026 Kadima Jury Prize, Miami Jewish Film Festival).
With a background as a violinist and orchestral conductor before attending film school at NYU, Hilan also regularly directs multi-camera concert captures for musical ensembles including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and The Cleveland Orchestra, as well as content for organizations including Medici TV, Carnegie Hall, Warner Classics, League of American Orchestras, Fund for the City of New York, New York City Opera, and many others.
